Hardwood flooring calculator
Turn room measurements into a hardwood flooring order. Add separate floor sections, set your waste allowance, and use the coverage printed on your chosen box.

How to estimate hardwood flooring
- Choose metric or US units, then measure the length and width of each area that will receive the same flooring.
- Use Add room for extra spaces. Break irregular rooms into rectangles and count each area once.
- Enter a waste percentage suited to your layout and the coverage per box. The default 10% is an example, not a universal recommendation.
- Choose Plan my flooring to update the result. Reset example restores the 4 m × 3 m room and its original settings.
A little extra, thoughtfully.
Waste varies with room shape, board layout, installation pattern, and the manufacturer’s requirements. The 10% default is only an example; it is not a recommendation for every floor. Check how much spare flooring you want for future repairs too.
Use only the area to receive this flooring. For irregular spaces, measure separate rectangles and avoid overlaps.
How the boxes add up.
Total floor area = sum of each length × width. Add the chosen waste percentage, divide by coverage per box, then round up to whole boxes.
A few things worth checking.
What is the difference between waste and box rounding?
Waste is the extra area you choose to allow for cuts and offcuts. Box rounding is the additional coverage needed to buy whole boxes; it is shown separately so you can see both margins.
Can I combine different flooring products?
Make a separate plan for each product or box coverage. This calculator uses one coverage value and does not optimize a mix of box sizes or calculate installation cost.
